Dr. Shubhi Jain founded the Nanhe Scientist in 2018. She established the organization to recognize promising young scientists from under-represented backgrounds. She has accomplished many successful workshops for school-going kids under “NANHE Scientist” – A Study Beyond Classroom. The initiative is a journey towards making our next generation self-motivating at a young age by engaging their curious minds in STEM through experiments and demonstrations. NANHE Scientist aims to resolve the ‘WHY’ component residing in every child and make their foundation robust from the beginning.
Shubhi completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Organic Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, under Professor S M Sondhi’s supervision on synthesizing heterocyclic compounds containing Nitrogen and/or Sulphur and their biological evaluation.
Her Post Doctrol work includes finding Manganese (Mn) as a co-factor for various catalytic and structural proteins. The mining and welding communities exposed to high levels of Mn are prone to a neurological disorder called ‘Manganism’ with symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease. She also contributed to synthesizing suitable “turn on” fluorescence and MRI sensors for Manganese (Mn) metal ions.
Before that, she completed her Master of Science in Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, under Professor U. P. Singh’s supervision. She also worked on a project at the National Facility on Geochronology, Institute Instrumentation Centre, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee on Isotopic Studies of Rb-Sr, Sm-Nb using Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometer (TIMS).
She has published several papers in various reputed Journals. She was awarded Seema Jain and Merit scholarships during her studies at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.
She also participated in the Science Popularisation and Public Outreach Committee “Chai and Why?” at TIFR in 2017— a workshop conducted at ‘The Alexandra Girls English Institution,’ Fort, Mumbai, and is a proactive member of an event called ‘Frontier of Science’ conducted every year at TIFR for at least 100 participating schools from all over Maharashtra. She has participated actively in synthesizing various new compounds and various mentored projects at TIFR Mumbai (2011-2012) and presented a poster during the Annual DCS (Department of Chemical Sciences) Seminars at TIFR Mumbai.
NANHE Scientist accomplished successful workshops for school going kids and named it “NANHE Scientist” – A Study Beyond Classroom. In last few years, we have conducted a number of workshops online, as well as offline based on simple yet high thinking
